Once upon a time we stated on Twitter we’d announce our new game when we reached 10,000 followers. This was back in 2014 shortly after Velocity 2X was released.

We’re not quite there yet, but sadly we can no longer do it, as the project we were due to announce was cancelled back in August.

Yup, it sucks, but it’s not the first time and it’s unlikely to be the last. However, it’s especially painful because we take great pride in keeping our word, particularly when we’re hyping our fans. It feels utterly crap to let people down. We’d grown complacent because until the release of Velocity 2X, we had full control of business and creative decisions, and could therefore keep our word 100%.

We’ve learned an important lesson that when control isn’t completely in our hands for whatever reason, we have to be more careful with our public statements.

The good news is that whilst the market timing for the game no longer made sense, there was nothing wrong with the game itself – and we retained the IP – so you may still see the game released in future.

In the meantime, we are all hard at work on new and even more ambitious things. I can speak for the whole team by saying there’s never been a more exciting time at FuturLab. Indeed, some of the technology we developed on the cancelled game has found its way into our new project.

However, it does mean that we can’t share any exciting news with you today, as it’s too early. In fact, we’d cooled it on Twitter in the hope we’d reach the 10k threshold just in time to announce the new NEW game, but activity resulting from the Daily Sprint DLC pack brought it forward.

Please accept my humble apologies, and we hope you understand.
