Stop reinventing the wheel, cruise along with us instead!

The wave of casual games interest seems never ending, and as the scope of projects increase and developers need to cover ground quickly, reusable game engines are a great solution.

Our game engine has been licensed for use by the BBC, and can be put to use on all sorts of 2D games, from Bomberman and Zelda style top-down games, to Sonic the Hedgehog and R-Type style side-scrolling adventures.

FuturLab is a small team of highly skilled ActionScript 3 developers with over 6 years commercial experience designing and building Flash games, websites and applications for major entertainment clients, including Sony Computer Entertainment and the BBC.

We’re comfortable working on projects large and small, with combined expertise providing a solid base in project planning, game design, programming and strict QA, ensuring our clients get the best across the whole process.

We are also happy to provide overspill resource, having built strong relationships with many London based agencies.

FuturLab has consistently earned praise for its professional, friendly approach and ability to deliver, and we can’t wait to dazzle you with our imagination and can-do attitude.

FuturLab began in 2003 when Fine Art graduate James Marsden set his sights on the games industry. With no background in programming or design, James set about teaching himself web technologies. The plan being to jump a series of ladders from website design to console game development.

The ladder looked something like this:

2003 - Standards compliant websites
2004 - Database driven websites with PHP + MySQL
2005 - Flash based application development
2005 - Flash based e-learning and simple mini-games
2006 - PRISM Platform Game Engine
2007 - Flash games for the BBC
2008 - Flash games for Sony Computer Entertainment
2009 - Watch this space...

Colin Dixon, CTO of Illustra Research writes:

Illustra provides online training and accreditation for one of the world's largest IT manufacturers, the cornerstone of which is an Internet-based application running rich-media presentations.

FuturLab were contracted to work on the application, and not only brought a good deal of panache, but worked faultlessly within a complex client-server infrastructure consisting of .Net, SQL Server and ActionScript.

FuturLab combine creativity with a confident and analytical approach to the structure of large projects - a rare combination in my experience.
